Rozen Maiden

Last Updated: 02-23-2012

I agreed to do this costume with con friends two years ago. After seeing photos of their costumes from Otakon 2011, I decide in needed to get Shinku done. We met up at con and had a great time with our little group on Saturday! This costume was full of new challenges, but in the end I love how this costume turned out.

Costume Notes-

Dress & Shrug:I made the costume out of velvet and it is lined in cotton. I did my research into sewing with velvet and decide to buy a walking foot for my machine, best idea ever! I did bond seams for the bodice. Their is an invisble zipper in the back that I hand sewn in, really time consuming but totally worth it. The trim is hand pleated, then I machine sewed to the velvet and hand sewed the trim to the lining. The bow in the back is made with velvet and craft foam, and attaches with snaps. I was scared to work the velvet but I'm really pleased with the results.

Bloomers & Undershirt:I patterned out both myself. They are both made of a light weight cotton and fully lined. The undershirt is acurate to the show, seen for only maybe ten minutes.

Petticoat:I made the petticoat out of 10 yards of tule. I love making petticoats, eventhough they take for ever to make.

Shoes:I got lucky and found the perfect shoes. I added the straps and bows, which were made out of a black satin. The roses were buttons that I bought at Joann.

Bonnet:This was one of the most intimidating parts of the whole costume. I used craftfoam as the base of the front of the bonnet. I shaped it using my oven(very carfully) and added wire to the front of the foam so I could shaped it even more perciselly. I then slipped the velvet over the foam and hand sewed it on, and then hand sewed on the back peice. Then it was hot glued onto a head band. Next I attached the green band with a snap under my chin, bow, and roses. It stays on really good with the headband and strap.

Wig:I started with a medium length wig from Arda(I love their wigs). I cut the bangs, added the curls to the front, and cut and curled the back. I used bananna clips ponies to make the pig tails. I orginally had two large curls on the bottom of each clip, but they fell out by the end of the day. Before I wear it again I plan to recurl them.

Thats all I can think of right know, if you have any guestions just pm me and I will do my best to answer them!
