OVERVIEW: I started making this as one of my dream costumes! I really wanted to use vinyl, but the lady at the fabric store just kind of looked at me like I was nuts and recommended stiff cotton-like-stuff instead. When I was done with the jacket, I found out I didn't have a ride to Tekkoshocon. I was really upset, so I didn't work on it... then the night before, I'm offered a ride to the con! I had to work like crazy getting this done, and I had a mental breakdown and cried all night instead at one point.
THE TOP: This is just a basic sports bra.
THE JACKET: This was a little more interesting to make. I used 'stiffener' and long, tubular sleeves to get the effect I needed. The black trim wasn't sewn on very well... nothing was, really. I was very happy that the shape of the jacket was correct, though!
THE SKIRT: I was also pleased with how the skirt's shape turned out. A friend ended up painting the black design on while I slept, since her sewing machine broke. I painted the buttons on the sides with acrylic paint that chipped off quite easily (next time? Sanding + primer)
BACKPACK: I have no pictures of this, but I actually made Dita's little alien-head backpack out of green felt. It turned out very cute, even if I accidentally sewed it upside-down.
HEADBAND: ... I don't wanna talk about it.
COMPLAINTS: This was happening to me for a while--I would start a costume, find out I could not go to the con, cry and put it away, and then be offered a ride to the con the night before it started! So I now work on a costume no matter if I'm sure to go or not. This costume could have been great if I'd actually had time to finish it. And the body to wear it, but... hey. And a wig. And the headband--the one I made was so crappy. I wonder if I still have this...?
