1920's Girl

Last Updated: 03-02-2012

I threw this costume together for my first reenacting convention, Military History Fest. I love the Roaring 20's because the women were so free spirited after finally winning the right to vote. It was fun researching the clothing, hair, and makeup styles... and this is what I came up with. I was the only 1920's representative that I saw there, and I received a lot of compliments for nailing the era so well!

CREATION:

Dress- This was a dress my sister had bought at Goodwill YEARS ago when she dressed up as a Barbie (I think). It originally had a huge sequined thing on the shoulder which I took my seam ripper to... and voila it was a 1920's dress with the stylistic drop waist and everything.

Binding- I bound my breasts as the women of the 1920's often did with a silk obi. I have huge boobs though and although I reduced their size drastically, I still would have have passed for having the ideal body shape back then.

Gloves- I purchased them on etsy a few months prior. They are hand crocheted from the 1950's.

Shoes- Found in my house, I think they were hand-me-downs from my cousins

Hat- Is a cloche hat that I bought for myself a year ago and wear all the time in the winter!

Jewelry- Matching jewelry originally bought for one of our prom dresses and never worn.

Throwing together a decently authentic costume in a day for the win!
