I knit the fourth Doctor's scarf only to realize I had nothing to wear it with. The only other character I could think of who wore a ridiculously long scarf was Rikku from FFX. So I had the thought to make a Thief sphere outfit Doctor Who themed, and went for it.
I used the leftover yarn to make a headband in the Doctor's colors, using the pattern Calorimetry on Ravelry, and bell sleeves of my own design. I even made the cord that laces the sleeves using the Beige colorway and a lucet.
I made the jewelery using chain, charms, and bells to take the place of Rikku's braids, and I'd made the shirt for a previous costume that didn't quite make it off the ground. The shorts were pants that I cut off.
The 90% is because I had intended to make a belt with pouches and fingerless gloves to match. I ran out of time before they could be completed.
The Doctor's Scarf took me 9 months to knit, the Calorimetry headband only a day or two, the bell sleeves took a couple weeks to knit, but I had to knit, frog, knit, frog several times because initial designs did not work and several tries were required to get the right size of sleeves and spacing of the eyelets, so I would say it took a couple weeks to design them, too. The lucet cords took around another week of carrying the skein into class and luceting through professor's lectures. The shirt, the shorts, and the jewelery only took about a day or so. Sewing is so much faster than knitting, omg.
Awards
The 2012 FIU Relay raised $88 thou for the ACS. That seems like an award worth earning to me.
