Description

OVERVIEW: I really liked Samurai Deeper Kyo until the last three episodes, when the show became absolute garbage. The manga was a little too ecchi for my tastes, as well, but when I found out about Cosplay Mini Golf, I needed a cute costume fast! I thought about it, and decided Yuya's yukata would be perfect for the spring weather. So I started sewing...

THE YUKATA: This was made without any pattern. I modelled it after my long kimono from Mythwear, and it took me two tries to get the cut of it correct. I used some clearance material, and although it's the right color, the texture was kind of a pain. The blue collar also didn't turn out right, and I didn't have time to buy felt for the designs! I ended up sewing on pieces of stiffener, and outlining them in black marker.

THE PARASOL: My parents brought this back from California for me! It's the best present they've ever got me. Sure, Yuya didn't carry one, but it was too beautiful not to take it out with me.

THE OBI: The green obi was sloppily tied, since I can't seem to make sense of tutorials. It was also handmade by me the first time I wore it, and not the right length at all. The cord around it was the most expensive part of the cosplay! For the second and last time I wore this one, I used my Mythwear obi. It's a little fancier, and still badly and incorrectly tied, but... whatchagonna do?

THE HAIR: is a mess, I know. At first, I didn't have time or money to get a wig (now I know to save more time and money for cosplays in advance!) so few people really had a clue who I was dressed as. For the cosplay picnic, I dug out my Misa Misa wig, tied it back hurriedly, and voila. Close enough.

SHOES: The first time, I just wore regular socks and sandals. For the second time, I wore the tabi socks I'd made for my Sakura (movie) costume, and actual geta I'd found in... the thrift store. They are NOT conducive to running three-legged races in. I do not recommend it.

COMPLAINTS: Again, the material was a pretty annoying texture, and the lack of wig made this costume hard to recognize. But it was comfortable and served its purpose for mini-golfing and picnicking fun!
