Lizzie's red dress is iconic for her, so I simply had to make it~ :D I picked red velvet for the fabric, because I love the richness of the color in photographs, and also because it's era-appropriate~ Most images of Lizzie's red dress have a rich red to them, but isn't particularly shiny, which, again is the appeal of red velvet. I also opted for lace ruffles instead of solid white ruffles because I like how they look with the velvet, and I like the added texture of the lace. The lining is a cotton fabric with a pattern that I thought looked better than a solid lining, and the pink skirt underneath is about 4 yards of gathered cotton sheermist, with a pink underskirt (because sheermist is, well, pretty sheer). Actually, the velvet overskirt is also about 4 yards, but pleated instead of gathered. And underneath those layers of ruffles and lace is a crinoline petticoat that I gathered/bunched up so it wouldn't show past the hemline and to give it extra body without need for a hoop skirt~ As for the center white lining? That's from the decorator/upholstery section. :D Again, instead of a solid white line, I wanted texture against the velvet, so I picked a simple scrollwork pattern to outline the white.
