My favourite Character from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
I decided last year, after a closet cosplay of AppleJack at Kawaii-Kon 2012, that I wanted to cosplay my favourite of the ponies, Twilight Sparkle. Especially after seeing so many pony cosplay, but none of her. Originally, this cosplay was planned as a group and I had designed all of the costumes/outfits.
I couldn't find exactly the fabric that I wanted at the fabric store on the island so I ended up dying a few things, the brocade for the vest, the pinstripes, and the tights. I was very pleased with how everything dyed, I learned, however to makes sure everything gets thoroughly coated so there are no spots in the dye job.
I designed the cutie mark embroidery for my machine so that there was a variation in colour because I am a real person and not a cartoon, so I personally thought it looked better.
All of the seams are serged in the pieces because it was my "test subject" for my new serger(I had never had one before) but I love the fact everything feels like I bought it at the store like this.
The hardest part so far was the wig, I had never modified a wig before and I couldn't get the colours to be blocky. But after leaving wefts pinned for the night and sleeping on the design, I realised I liked the subdued, more natural looking streaks.
All that I have left for this cosplay is to make the ears and the horn, which I will be using expanding foam and paper mache or I will be using Sculpey clay...it depends on how the tests work out. I also just have the remaining hand-stitching of the final seams left.
