Harry Potter Series

Last year, we decided to group as the evil side of Harry Potter, rather than Harry, Hermione and Luna. My friend Kyle was Lord Voldemort, and Courtney Draco Malfoy, so I mustered together a Bellatrix Lestrange costume. Much of the outfit was put together by thrift shopping, but there was a lot of sewing involved as well.
Firstly, the base of the costume was an old Halloween costume of mine, an empire Vampire dress from middle school. I ended up turning it into a shirt and a skirt, because it was easier to assemble. The fabric proved impossible to dye, so I did end up taking a permanent marker to the top in desperation, and buying an over skirt for the bottom. On these, I took a silver paint pen to add Bellatrix's embellishments.
I also had to chop off the sleeves of the dress. Lestrange has a built in corset, but instead I found a black leather vest, old fashion with the top the comes up to just under the bust. So I took the knit sleeves of a sweater, cut them off and hemmed the edges. They had leather thread piping in them to begin with, crossed along the underside, so I just bought some more cord and laced it in a zigzag pattern to attach the sleeves to the dress with a wide gap, like hers where the sleeves appear to be pulled. I also got some gothicy-floral patterned fishnets, and a pair of pointy toed black boots.
I got the jewelry at many different stores, mainly mixing and matching. Series of rings on one thumb, and a skull on the other hand, with Bellatrix's copyrighted bird-skull necklace.
Also, the wand I made myself. I walked around my yard for about five minutes before I found an accurate stick, which I hand-sanded the bumps off of and trimmed the edges. I bought wood staining markers, a lighter one for the shaft of the wand and the darker one on the handle. When that sunk in I glossed it and let it sit.
I rinsed my hair black for the weekend, but it came out as more dark brown than anything. Makeup by me, and the dark mark by me. It's just traced in pen, pattern from an old pattern mini flashlight I had.
