Pinkie Pie Gala
My Little Pony
Last Updated: 05-03-2013
This was a total pain, but a very loved one.
It started with a sketch I did of a human Pinkie in her gala dress, which I loved from first seeing it. I loved the color, I loved how poofy it looked, and I loved the whole design of it. After that, it was just a matter of time before I knew I wanted to and needed to make this bugger.
The hardest part was the corset/top. I've never made one and had to get tons of help with it, but oh man was it worth it. It's comfy, not too tight or loose, and it's the most comfortable piece for a costume I have. The lace is actually perfect, as it has happy faces on the edges. I didn't notice until I got it home, and saw that it would fit perfectly. If you are planning a light costume corset like this, don't spend an arm and a leg on stays. I went to hardware store and got the larger sized zip ties. I ran them under a heat gun to straighten them out, and they worked like a dream. I was supported and the top didn't feel like it was sagging at all. Those zip ties saved me a bundle!
The second hardest was the skirt. There is just about a mile of toule in the petticoats. That is no joke. Around 6 yards of white and pink toule are under the bright pink taffeta. We're still picking up pieces of toule in the sewing room that I borrowed to make this. The lining is actually the heaviest part of the whole thing and is an old cotton top sheet. It feel so nice against my legs though and much nicer than itchy toule.
That hat was so much fun to make. The base of it is plastic, large needle work mesh that was glued and stitched together and covered in felt to make it puffy and white taffeta. Every piece is glued on, from the trim to the bow. I have installed a comb into the hat since the convention(The hat was a very last minute thing) to make it easy to get on and off.
My glittery shoes are the pride of my cosplay shoe collection. These were a surprise find on eBay for way less than I was intending to spend. The color matches my wig and the bows fir perfectly onto the toes of the shoes. They are extra comfy to walk around for miles in, and the glitter has yet to really fall off at all. These things are PERFECT.
I would like to thank my mother and my friend Molly for helping me so much with this costume. All the advice I can take to another costume and the skills and techniques I learned from here will help me so much with it comes to future projects!
