Maiko (apprentice geisha)

Green Kimono

Last Updated: 04-09-2012

The entire purpose of this costume was to celebrate the achievement of a weight loss goal. :D I had told myself that when I reached it, I would call up my photographer and we would have a maiko photoshoot, and in March, that's exactly what happened!
The kimono is from Japan, and is something I already had in my collection. Everything else is made by me - the kimono undies, the kanzashi, the okobo (shoes), and the darari obi, which is a tie-on obi. I am probably never going to wear traditional obi again, tie-on obi are a complete revelation! What used to take me a good 45 minutes to tie correctly now takes all of 15! Sooo much easier.
All these pictures were taken in the Fort Worth Japanese Gardens. :D
