Silk Maiden

American McGee\'s Alice

Although I've never played American Mcgee's Alice or Alice: Madness Returns, due to not owning a play station, I've watched enough walkthroughs to fall in love with the game and Alice's costumes.

I chose to do the Silk Maiden dress because i already had the material for the base dress. This material is thin cotton (it had to be lined to stop it being see through) tablecloths. The print is not exactly as it is in the game, but it is as close as I can manage.

The dress involved a lot of pattern altering, and I learnt a lot of skills, such as how to draft out darts (dart were removed because I had to lengthen the bodice)

The trim around the neck is pleated white satin. I used pink satin for the ruffle on the hem of the dress and her obi and gloves. The hot pink material came from an old umbrella (umbrella fabric is very versatile: you can iron it smooth and use it as lining too). The obi and bow are interfaced with piece of a plastic table cloth. I drafted the glove pattern myself (not exactly haute couture, but functional) Unfortunately I forgot to wear the bow and gloves for the photos, but they do exist: I followed a tutorial by taeliac on deviantart.
The apron is white cotton, lined with an old sheet. The pattern was drawn on with fabric markers. The necklace is polymer clay on a piece of yarn.

I wore this costume to Avengers Assemble (nothing to do with the Avengers, but I had to wear some kind of costume)
