It all started with a ghost...

As I was perusing the dealer room at Anime Matsuri, I saw one of Perona's negative ghosts for sale. My next cosplay ambition was ignited!

Oda always surprises me with his characters. While creating this costume and revisiting the Thriller Barc arc in which she first appears, I was surprised by the uncanny similarity Perona bears to Alex from Anthony Burgess' dystopian novel "A Clockwork Orange". Perhaps most recognizable is her makeup, which I believe may be a direct nod to makeup shown on the original cover of the novel. Furthermore, I believe Perona's personality is reminiscent of Alex's-- they both have a penchant for violence that is apparently baseless (e.g., when Perona was asked why she joined Moria, she reports she thought it would be fun).

I made everything in this cosplay with the exception of the ghost and tights. I'm going to remake the umbrella with an umbrella cover for the next con :D
