The Great Fairy

Blue Fairy

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

I had ALWAYS wanted to cosplay someone from the Legend of Zelda series. Of course the first one I pick is something completely crazy: the Great Fairy! But not just the regular one from Ocarina of Time, one of her variants from Majora's Mask!

In all honesty the Great Fairy is about the scariest character in the game next to Ganon (I think the laugh and her popping out of the fairy fountain is what makes it scary), yet I found the idea of doing the Great Fairy to be amusing more than anything...if not more so to scare convention attendees.

There were a few things inspiring me to make this costume. First Tristen Citrine's technique when she made her "Jewel Princess" costume, and secondly two gorgeous fanart I saw of their rendition of the Great Fairy. I basically decided early on that my costume would be a mix of these two fanarts because in game shots are so incredibly hard to get, plus it "CAN" be interpretive to exactly what are those "dots" on her body.

The costume itself IS a bodysuit. I dyed the bodysuit to a flesh tone color so it would match (somewhat) my skin color. In order to get the leaves and flower petals on my body, I HAD to be in the suit so it would conform to my shape. I had a little assistance from Sana-chan when applying leaves to my butt. Oh-ho-ho-ho.

The boots I got on sale and dyed to a brown color befitting of the games...however I would've liked to have had that size boots but been laced-boots.

The only things I DID NOT MAKE about this costume are the ears and wig. The ears were bought from Yaya's cosplay store and decorated by me because with this monstrous wig, it can't fit underneath. But it certainly tops the costume off very well and I was pleased with the finished product. The makeup I modeled after a fanart design I saw and I pretty much think it works.

As far as WHY did I choose the blue fairy instead of the pink one? Well it was more of a convenience thing really: when I went to my local wig store, they just didn't seem to have the right color needed for that pink wig. So I just decided then and there that I'd do a fairy from Majora's Mask since in Majora's mask you hafta collect all these mini fairies in order to make the BIG fairy.

Costume is a pain to wear, but oh so much fun with Zelda cosplayers!
