My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Last Updated: 03-16-2013
Been wanting to do a gijinka of Twilight Sparkle for quite some time, and I finally got to start making it in June. So, yay! Twilight's pretty well the pony equivalent of me, I love purple, and I actually don't see a whole lot of her being cosplayed compared to the other five. So, voila, my decision. I went, like usually seen, with a schoolgirlish design, with ears and horn, purple circle lenses for her eyes, and "hoof" pieces on my legs with platformed heels in place of typical socks and shoes.
The design consists of;
-Wig; A cosplay.com Clover in shadow blue, with the streaks of pink and purple taken from clip-on wefts from Claire's. Just had to trim the bangs and add the wefts.
-Horn; Made of cardstock, air-dry clay and held onto the wig with wire, painted with lavender acrylic paint.
-Ears; Made of lavender felt, using ArtemisMoon's tutorial for felt pony ears I found on dA. They're sewn onto the wig instead of pinned, which means I have to be extra-careful to not muss up the hair too much so as to not either pull all the hair out from under them or have big bunches of tangles on top. Or unsew them to fix it and put them back on again.
-Blouse; I found a lovely lavender blouse in a thrift shop, and embroidered her cutie mark onto it as a monogram.
-Skirt; I made a pleated schoolgirl skirt from a grey, black and purple checked fabric; it's quite a nice fabric, although it took multiple Ironings to get the pleats to stay in and it still looks rumply (now that I'm in fashion school, I'll see if I can get my hands on a pleater...).
-"Hoof" pieces and shoes; I decided to get the look of the pony legs instead of normal socks and shoes, so I'm making what's essentially flared lavender legwarmers, over a pair of heeled platform shoes to hide my feet underneath. Not fun walking all day in those... the snaps on the hoof pieces love to come undone. So in the halls I just wear purple knee socks and white ballet flats now.
And, as mentioned before, I'm wearing violet dollyeye circle lenses to get the big-eyed, purple-eyed effect, and false eyelashes, since I have practically no eyelashes.
