Princess Tutu

Princess Tutu

Incoming wall of text. Princess Tutu is one of my favorite animes ever. I worked on this costume off and on for a couple of months so I was really excited to finally wear it.

Costume: Bodice was made from bridal satin. Nothing fancy.

Tutu: The tutu was purchased. I wasn't crazy about it at first because it didn't really look like the picture on the website. But it looked great after I trimmed it a bit. Because the leotard panty is higher up than the tutu its connected to, I made a makeshift skirt that went on top of the tutu that covered that part.

Back Details: The yellow wings in the back were made of wire and cellophane glued together. The blue antenna things are clear plastic pipes that I painted. I added yellow feathers where the wings and pipes intersect so it had a uniform look.

Jewelry: The necklace was made from sculpty. The wings are a single piece of plastic painted with nail polish. Bracelets were wooden beads that I painted. The crown is made from model magic.

Wig: The wig is from Arda Wigs in their Salmon color. Its a great color for Princess Tutu. It was really thick so I had to trim a lot of it in the back. The feathers were glued to a piece of interfacing and then glued to the wig. The hair curl is supported by floral wire that was stuck through the top of the wig. And lots of hairspray.

Shoes: The pointe shoes I am wearing have been deshanked and the toe boxes crushed. I know how dangerous it is to go on pointe without being properly trained. This way the shoes have the look of a pointe shoe but not the functionality. Meaning, I couldn't go on pointe even if I wanted to. They've also been dyed (foam brush dipped in RIT dye and painted on) so they were more pink.

You can see this costume in acksonl's Otakon 2012 video @ 1:40 ---
