My very first steam punk! And also, as the title says, my first bustle! It took 5 days of extra free time, and 2 days for the skirt alone! The reason I made was for Mantecoza's marketplace scene. My sister and I were extras in the background. It was really cool to see so many other steamers and see the actors do their thing. 8D I absolutely adore the new Ring Wizard. These pictures were taken after I got home, having done 8 hours on set. And that's why I have a very tired smile. XD
If you guys don't know what Mantecoza is... it's a Steam Punk Web Series!
1) Blouse: I made the shirt from scratch. I had this really old cotton lying around in my closet. I copied the base pattern from a work shirt. I added ruffles to the sleeves and front. Bronze buttons add a nice touch..
2) Bustle/petticoat: The poof is really just a mini pillow I made attached to the underside of my petticoat. You can't see it here, of course.
3) Skirt: 5 yards of fabric! O_O The front is straight up until the ruffles. The pinkish floral was another fabric I had lying around and never used. I finally got to use it! The back of the skirt was complicated. There's three "tiers" of straight trapezoids with ruffles on the longest end. I bring the center of the trapezoid upward into a "french bustle". It's not really a french bustle though, because it's 3 separate pieces instead of just one.
4) Vest: a salvaged lolita item from a previous lolita dress. I cut off the sleeves and opened the back to show off the bustle. The cameo buttons came with it. (it was from a thrift store..).
I did my hair in curls (which got ruined by the end of the day, as you see here), and I wore victorian-esque shoes I bought from Mardi Gras costume shop.
Will be seen on screen! 8D
