Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Last Updated: 02-17-2013
I was not too sure about this series when I began watching it, because the Mahou Shoujo genre wasn't really my thing. I associated with cutesy magical stuff and yeah, just not entirely up to my alley. The adorable cover art didn't really help. But Madoka Magica is a prime example of that you should never judge a book (or anime in this case) by its cover, because it turned out to be one of my favourite series.
I especially loved Homura, because of the development she had made and what she went through in the series. She's a tragic character, and I suppose I have a thing for those these days. I also really liked the monochrome costume design, which was a bit more sober (but still pretty and elegant) compared to the other girls. Cosplaying her was a logical decision.
The costume was originally planned for Tsunacon 2012, but I had some budget problems. I moved my plans to Abunai! 2012, but a week before the convention I did a photoshoot with some friends which was a lot of fun. :D
Once on the convention itself, I realized that the heels of my shoes had broken, but thankfully I had another pair of black shoes with me (though they were flat, but it was better than nothing!). I ended up wearing the costume on both friday and saturday, and I had a lot of fun wearing it. :D My wig was pretty much dead, though.
I have reworn the cosplay for Tsunacon 2013, as my original plans didn't turn out well. I bought a new wig and a new pair of heels. The wig was already being incredibly irritating halfway, as it's 100 cm long and it kept getting tangled. Despite that, I think this is my favourite costume to date! :)
Costume and soulgem were made by Cosmonde. The shield was made thanks to my dad. :) The wig came from CCKids. The hairband was acquired somewhere on Ebay as well.
