Bakumatsu Renka: Shinsengumi
Last Updated: 10-07-2012
Bakumatsu Renka: Shinsengumi is a semi-unknown visual novel/otome game only released in Japan. I haven't played the game so I can't utter my opinions about it, but I've read the manga. I've heard the game has more historical events, fights and stuff though. I'd like to play it if I ever get the chance.. but I can't understand Japanese much at all so. *shrugs*
I think I first found out about this game's existence by googling "shinsengumi" and me, being a Japanese history geek (especially anything samurai), of course got an interest to check out more. I happened to come by an English fan site for Bakumatsu Renka: Shinsengumi with some basic information about the characters and I soon noticed that pretty much all of the shinsengumi guys in this game seemed to have the same (or very similar, except Kondō LOL) personalities like their counterparts in Hakuōki: Shinsengumi Kitan. Me gusta because I'm a huge Hakuōki fan. xD
A month or so later I noticed that there existed a manga and to my luck I happened to find it translated to English! Obviously I read it because I wanted to know more and well, I actually found the manga enjoyable even though it was short; it's like a fluffier romantic non-dark version of Hakuōki, hahaha. (though, as I mentioned earlier, the game seems to have more of the historical events and some bloodshed..?)
I found it a bit funny how I ended up liking the same characters in Bakumatsu Renka: Shinsengumi whom I liked the most in Hakuōki - namely Hijikata, Okita and Saitō.
I soon decided I wanted to cosplay all of those three someday but Saitō was the one possible to do in time for Tracon and besides, I already had a surprisingly almost-perfect-for-him vintage kimono which I had bought long before knowing about Bakumatsu Renka and I also had a green kaku obi, yay! I had to make the sleeveless shirt and glove and style the wig.
I have cosplayed Hajime Saitō at:
2012 • Tracon in Tampere, Finland.
