Worn with East Blue Cosplay's Dantalian no Shoka group at Nan Desu Kan 2012. So much love for my Huey, Rasiel, and Lady of the Library <3
So Flam is a really interesting character and plays a neat role in the world of Dantalian no Shoka. Though she's only in a few episodes, I connected with her and wanted to cosplay her right away. Who would have thought that a (modified) straitjacket could be so comfortable?
This costume was deceptively difficult, and there are a /ton/ of pieces to it. The dress and sleeves are (what else?) stretch sateen, the shorts are swimsuit knit, and the leggings are the most wonderful cotton knit I've ever encountered. The dress was a heavily-altered evening gown pattern; all other fabric pieces were free-patterned. The sleeves are six and a half feet long!
There is a buttload of stretch vinyl on this. All of those straps are doubled-up stretch vinyl, fabric-glued together to reduce stretching, and then topstitched. The buckles are attached using mounting squares (which work /way/ better than glue on stretch vinyl).
The locket and buckles are all craft foam-based. The buckles are three layers, while the locket is four with a layer of stretch vinyl for good measure. I used paper clay to even out the sides and hide the layers, and to build up detail on the locket. Each piece is sealed with glue and Mod Podge Hard Coat, then Rub 'n Buffed and weathered with black paint.
The collar is made from Wonderflex, covered with more stretch vinyl and painted silver. It ties onto my neck with bias tape (hidden in the back). I purchased the goggles and the chain on eBay and re-colored them (the goggles with Rub 'n Buff, and the chain with Krylon spray paint). I also replaced the elastic band on the goggles with appropriately-colored elastic. The chains attach to my feet with elastic bands of their own, which get tucked up under the vinyl straps.
My wig is an Arda Jeannie in Dark Ash Blonde, and was perfect, if extremely heavy. It takes about thirty bobby pins and the elastic from the goggles to really hold this thing in place.
I also invested in a great pair of pink contacts for this cosplay: Vassen Cloud Nines. They are really cool!
