Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner

No feet. No. Feet. I don't know what mecha designer Yoji Shinkawa had against feet, but none of his Orbital Frames have them. This was the first big obstacle I had to overcome in making this costume. I blew this costume off for years waiting for someone else to make one. Then I could see how they handled the feet and either steal or figure out a way to improve on their idea. Several searches of the internet only brought me an unidentified mech that only barely looked like Jehuty and a video of another Jehuty mask that lit up. I'm pretty sure I have the first-ever complete Orbital Frame costume. The whole thing is made of either non-corrugated cardboard or heavy cardstock covered in vinyl and painted. The light up parts are EL wire threaded through various pieces. The ring/halo back piece was the second big obstacle I had to deal with. I started with a hula hoop that I mounted to a flagpole holder with PVC pipe. I then screwed the pods directly to the hoop and covered it in heavy cardstock painted with glow in the dark spray paint. For the lower legs and no feet, I began with a pair of clear high heels and covered the part of the feet that would still be showing with cardboard covered in black vinyl. They turned out much better than I thought they were going to, so now you lazy people have no excuses! Get out there and build some Orbital Frames!
