Rinoa Heartilly (Pajamas)
Final Fantasy VIII

It never really occured to me to do a "pajama version" of a character, but when a bunch of cosplay.com members decided to have a PJ Gathering/Photoshoot at Anime Boston 2006, I decided to jump on the bandwagon. Naturally, I picked Rinoa, and went to work on a design which took found items and altered them for a unique Rinoa flair.
Like my Rinoa swimsuit, my goal was to create something that I thought the character could actually wear to bed, and which reflected her outfit rather than tried to replicate it. To begin, I started with Rinoa basics: a black tank top and a pair of black pajama pants, both of which I already owned. To simulate her duster, I decided to use a blue flannel pajama top from Victoria's Secret which had a white feather print on it (perfect!). However, I thought the top needed more customization, so I took some leftover white satin/poly and lined the cuffs, pockets, and collar. I then cut out two wings for the back and one for the front pocket, and stiched those on for a more Rinoa-esque look. Finally, I wrapped a headband in blue ribbon and topped it off with a bow to simulate her arm ribbon. Put together with a pair of blue slippers I already had, my Rinoa necklace and wig, it was all set to go!
However, I also decided Rinoa needed a Squall plushie. Seeing that I couldn't find one anywhere, I threw one together myself. The head, body, and facial features are all made from felt, and his clothes are made from scraps of fabric left over from other costumes. I had a black buckle bracelet and a maroon choker which I cut up and used for the belts; I glued silver sequins to the red one to simulate the metal studs. I stole one of my Mom's bracelets which looked kind of like Squall's necklace to put on him, and, as a finishing touch, my Rinoa necklace came with an extra Griever ring, so I slipped that around his wrist.
All and all, it's a fun costume to wear, and oh so comfy! It was awesome to be able to throw this on after a long day at the con.
