I'm not much for shōjo series but Fruits Basket is one of the few exceptions I guess. It was MissAngie who got me to read the manga and while I found the first few volumes, well, boring, the story picked up later and got a lot more interesting and deeper. I must say though that while I enjoyed the manga a lot (especially after the actual story started developing) I found the anime very disappointing... but then again, I read the manga before watching the anime so maybe that's why...
Oh well, about the characters Kazuma and Kureno are by far my two favorites, but Hatori and Kyo are pretty cool too. I liked Kazuma from the very start and he stayed my number one favorite through it all, even though he is just a supporting character. I just thought he was such a nice fatherly figure and besides he gets a big thumbs up for never wearing anything else than kimono during the whole manga. xD *coughkimonoaddictcough*
All items for this cosplay are bought. The kimono and haori are genuine vintage pieces from Japan, both are silk. The kaku obi and juban (read: under kimono) are synthetic but also genuine. The zori shoes I got as a gift from a Japanese acquaintance some years ago and I've used them quite a lot for different cosplays. The wig I bought from MoeMall and just trimmed the bangs shorter.
This cosplay was debuted at Desucon 2013 in Lahti, Finland, 14-16 June. Ri-tan cosplayed Kyo with me and we were quite popular at the con! It was nice to see people seemed to recognize our characters (or Kyo at least xD) even though Fruits Basket is a bit old now and character designs aren't that distinguishable. It was very nice. :)
I have cosplayed Kazuma Sōma at:
