Maou/ Demon King
Maoyū Maō Yūsha
Last Updated: 08-31-2013
My hubby and I just started watching this anime and I fell in love with the character of Maou. She's so cute and innocent, yet she's also intelligent and very funny.
The pattern used was a funky McCalls pattern, and the fabric is twill. The bodice is lined and interfaced and laces up the back. After Anime North, I put boning in the back of the bodice since the grommets alone were making it do really funny things. The boning helped but it also makes the back of the bodice sit up higher so it pokes the back of my neck a bit now.
The jacket is a very thin material (some sort of suiting) so that wearing this outfit in summer won't make me fall over from heatstroke! I went with fur rather than feathers for the trim since I didn't want to be shedding all over the place when I walk, and it just looks better to me. The jacket was completely re-made after Anime North since I was an utter genius the first time and sewed the red diamonds *after* the sleeves were put together. Not easy to get a needle through a finished sleeve! The second time, I sewed the red diamonds on BEFORE the sleeve was attached. Looks much better, and only took 20 minutes rather than 4 hours over two days!
This outfit is five layers layers overall - leggings/ tank top, petticoat, corset (yes, there's a full corset going on under there, purchased from a wonderful company called damselinthisdress), bodice/ skirt and jacket.
The horns were purchased at Anime North from Sunhawk.
