After baking in an elf ranger last year and spending all that time in ballet class, I decided to do something summery and dance-friendly (and make use of my old ballet slippers). So, I went with the idea of a costume of the four elements.
The outfit is;
-Headdress and veil; a headband made of satin and elastic, and with fake flowers, feathers (guineafowl and peacock from an old jar I have of them) and fake willow tendrils on the sides, blue and red tulle, and a string of red, yellow, green and blue beads across my forehead. And a simple diagonal square of chiffon that clips to the back of my head.
Dress; Forgot the pattern I used, so I'll get back to that when I'm back at my Mom's house to look. Done in red, blue, green and yellow, trimmed in blue and red tulle, green fake leaves and yellow feathers. On the back is a three-tiered "bustle" of sorts made of chiffon, sewn to a belt. And overtop of that, a sash with some extra tulle and a top sash tied in a bow.
Arm things; One red and one blue satin arm piece; pretty simple, a loop on the wrist and on the upper arm to keep it on, and a gather and long tail of fabric. Fantastic for dancing!
Shoes; My old pink ballet slippers, and I added pointe-style ribbon from four-coloured sports binding. I nearly ruined them; it rained on the day I wore it and my feet got quite wet. And leather soles tend to get rock-hard after that. It took a lot of kneading lether conditioner through them for a week to get them usable for a second wear.
Pictures weren't taken in 2013 since I was too busy flouncing around and boyfriend was too busy carrying things or being too hot, but I finally got some pictures taken in its next wear at 2014 (which also involved different face paint that I don't think looks as nice as the first one).
