Josie Sands's silver swing dress
Last Updated: 08-19-2013
Abaddon is the queen of my heart, one of my favourite things to come out of Season 8 of Supernatural (which I had some issues with as a season). Someone on tumblr mentioned after I changed the shade of auburn I dye my hair in July that I could cosplay as her now, and I was dumbfounded that I hadn't thought to cosplay as her yet. I got whipped into a cosplay frenzy, and decided to make the whole thing in time for San Japan in August.
The dress is a seemingly standard swing dress from the fifties, but after going through every vintage swing dress pattern on all of Etsy and coming up with nothing that would work, I decided to draft it myself. It is made out of a silver dull sheen satin. The actual dress in the show is made of silk taffeta I'm pretty sure, but I didn't have the money for a fabric that is $30 a yard, and synthetic taffeta is pretty icky.
I am considering remaking it for Ikkicon, because since sewing it and comparing the result to the reference photos, I have deemed that there are a couple inaccuracies that I can live with for now, but would like to fix in the future. They are the width of the straps, the deepness of the neckline and the height of the cummerbund. I don't know if I can fix the height of the cummerbund, because that is more than likely a result of me being a lot shorter than Alaina Huffman, and not having a torso tall enough for a six inch cummerbund, but the width of the straps was simply an error on my part in drafting the pattern. Also, the whole thing could be a bit neater overall, and perhaps I could save up to buy the expensive silk taffeta. >w<
What I still need to complete:
-Clip in extensions for her hairstyle, which is insane, but unfortunately has a very exposed natural hairline that you couldn't replicate without a really, REALLY high quality lace front wig, too quality for me to be able to afford
-Blood spatters on the dress
-My floofy petticoat
-Stockings of some sort
