I've had the materials to redo Lum for a very long time, and I finally decided to go for it this summer! Like Girl-type Ranma, she's long-overdue. This time around I really wanted to do a proper job on her, so I decided to make the tiger stripes myself, and go for a more teal shade of green on the wig vs. the more Crayola shade I used last time. (Options weren't as varied or available back when I made the first version!) I also wanted a more retro look in the bottoms, and real support in the top.
I started out with a relatively low-pile fur in golden yellow and black, cut out my base shapes, and then cut out and sewed on the stripes individually using a zig-zag stitch. For the top, I cut down a light yellow bra and built from there. The bottoms are actually shorts, worn over another pair of bottoms. The boots are sewn to a pair of ballet-flat slippers; I am thinking of redoing them so they're longer and closer in fit (I'd also like to redo the stripes).
The bangs on the wig turned out really well this time. I can actually see, since they're cut shorter in the center, but they're still nice and long on the sides. I still want to add another wig's worth of fiber to the back and ear locks, but it's a good start. The horns are sculpey, same as before, just in a shade to match this bikini. I do also have pointed ear tips, though they don't show too much.
Anything left to do? I'd still like more photos, of course, and also to get a pair of fangs.
