Science BBQ Tee and shorts outfit
Last Updated: 08-05-2015
Princess Bubblegum is easily one of the coolest princesses there is, and I've been wanting to do an Adventure Time cosplay for ages. The only problem is I hate pink, and Bubblegum is all about it. But then I discovered- an outfit where she barely wears any, which would also be inexpensive and comfy for summer cosplay use and the Toronto Islands cosplay picnic after Anime North, especially after I had to prematurely retire Rainbow Dash. So I jumped on the idea! (Link to the outfit she wears- http://adventuretime.wikia.com/wiki/The_Real_You?file=S2e15_princess_bubblegum_hand_on_hip.png )
The costume is:
-Wig; A Persephone in Princess Pink from epiccosplay. I got real lucky to get a $10 gift card from epiccosplay when I submitted a picture to their Show Us Your Moves series, and with that and points accumulated I saved a bundle. Styling was simple; cut the bangs, detangling spray, a little hairspray, and I put the end tips into hairsprayed points to hopefully keep the fibers together a little better/less tangleable.
-Crown: Made from the craft foam, glue and cloth method, with some support wire and pinning loops like I did with my Luna crown. Bonus that all I had to buy was gold paint to have everything I needed.
T-shirt: Thrifted a yellow tee, and painted on the red rainicorn with acrylic paint and textile medium.
-Shorts: As I started looking for pieces LAST summer, lucky me, I thrifted the perfect pair of white jean shorts.
-Socks: Bought from Ardene.
-Shoes: Also bought from Ardene. Lucky me, I nearly settled for ugly hot-pink Payless ones, but then Ardene finally released their spring/summer shoes with these in a much nicer shade of pink. And for pretty darn cheap, at that!
-Skin: As it's honestly a pretty subtle pink, I just left my skin as-is. I don't want to deal with a pretty widespread amount of body paint for a casual costume, especially when I usually take public transit to cons. I use pink eye and lip makeup and heavily blush my cheeks but that's be about it, unless I start to get a sunburn.:P And if time/myother costumes permit, pink nail polish.
-Lab coat: She doesn't canonically wear it with this outfit, but I bought one (woohoo, university bookstores. High quality and cheaper than the shit costume ones!) for Atomic Lollipop because A- Science Center venue. HELLO PERFECT BACKDROP TO DO SCIENCE IN, and B- Said Science center is BLOODY FREEZING with the a/c in summer and I needed the lab coat on most of the time to keep from shivering.
-Accessories: I'll be carrying around the prototype of one of my Science the rat plushies that I make for Artist Alley, at most cons. For the Toronto cosplay picnic, I'm making a tray of royal tarts.
