SO, SO SPARKLY.
This costume was suggested to me by a friend. I honestly have never been a huge fan of May/Haruka, but when I saw this outfit I just couldn't resist; I wanted to make it as sparkly and tacky as possible.
Luckly, my buddy Sparkle Pipsi has experience working with confetti dot fabric and she gave me a few tips for working with it. I used basting spray to adhere the confetti dot fabrics to some thin broadcloth to make them easier to sew/pin and work with... It was perfect! I can't imagine what I would have done without her advice. @_@
The purple and pinks are all confetti dot sequin fabrics, and the white is sparkle casa satin from JoAnn. The skirts are each double circle skirts. I made a double circle skirt mock-up and drew out the layers of the colors on the skirt to figure out how to cut it out and put it all together. I patterned out the top/shirt thing from scratch by draping fabric and pinning until I had something that vaguely fit and worked with it until it went together.
The leg bands are foamies covered with confetti dot fabrics, and the shoes are pumps I bought from the thrift store, painted pink, then covered in the confetti dot fabric to match the dress. I painted the shoes pink first because the base color of the shoes showed through the thin confetti dot fabric. Fabri-tac worked amazingly well to glue all the confetti dot to the shoes!
I used horsehair in the skirts to make them all ripply. The wig is an Arda Buttercup in light brown that I cut and styled. Holy crap, the front of that wig is thick, it took forever to get bangs into that thing.
Rubica laser cut the Pokeball gem/shinies from some acrylic stuff for us. :3 We thought it would be a cool touch to use them in place of plain rhinestones. I love the way she did them! The earrings and button on the top are laser cut Pokeballs too!
