I grew up with Unico as a child. I watched it on beta!!!
Anyway, talk of Unico costumes came up on the COSP ml a long time back and I decided to join the fun by doing the one outfit that really mesmerized me when I was young. When the little girl Cherrie gets turned into a doll, there's this trippy dance sequence with lights and toys and the crazy magician Kuruku... @_@
So the costume is from a seriously modified body suit pattern. I added major flares to the sleeves and the legs so that it just draped like crazy. The suit is made with white cotton interlock, backed with swimsuit lining. All hemming is by hand, stitched only into the lining so there is no topstitching in the entire costume. Stretchy materials and zippers don't work easily together and it kept bunching so the back zipper was sewn, ripped out and resewn like five times before I gave up and prick-stitched it in by hand.
The only other special detail with the costume was the enormous lashes. They were easy to find at costume supply stores so I stocked up a bit on 'em.
What I really liked about wearing the costume is that it has the weighty feel like wet fabric and is so comfortable!
