Overall this costume was pretty easy to make. I have Yuugao's hair and her eyes are brown, so there was no need for a wig or colored contacts. I did use purple hair gel to add purple highlights in my bangs, because her hair has a purple sheen to it in the Anime.
The hardest part of the costume was probably the makeup: As you can tell from the manga, Yuugao has very distinctive eyes. I have puny Asian eyes. Hence, lots of eye makeup was needed to help make my eyes look more anime-ish. Although not portrayed in the anime, in the manga Yuugao's lips are shaded, (like Kurenai's), strongly suggesting that she wears lipstick, so I used red lipstick as well. I like going by the manga rather than by the anime, and the red lipstick also helped with the ANBU color scheme.
For the Anbu tattoo I used a tattoo that was part of an official Bandai-released tattoo sheet I bought in Japan. The sheet also included Naruto's whiskers, Gaara's "ai" character, Neji's forehead tattoo bondange symbol of doom, Anko/Sasuke's curse seal etc as well as the anbu tattoo. People tend to forget that for ANBU tattoos, it goes on the RIGHT shoulder for girls, and the LEFT shoulder for guys. I read this off the official character book for Naruto.
I cosplayed Anko previously and used the white guards on her legs, re-sized them and used them as the white armguards of the Anbu uniform.
While the costume looks complete, I'm still missing the Anbu mask, the bandages on the left side of the arm below the shoulder, and I want to re-make the white Anbu vest because the one I was wearing was borrowed from Zimmay. =) The sleeveless black turtleneck was store-bought, not made, and borrowed from Silver-Ruby, who used it for her Orochimaru cosplay previously :D
Additionally, I also do not have the metal plates on the gloves (see this link: http://www.animegalleries.net/albums/Naruto/anbu/naruto_anbu0004.jpg) and will add that on for next time.
Also, I belatedly realized that ANBU do not wear white bandages between their ankles and knees. Instead they have knee-high ninja sandals with belt straps. (see this image: http://www.animegalleries.net/albums/Naruto/anbu/naruto_anbu0005.jpg)
That was what I originally thought as well, but someone told me they had bandages so I ended up putting bandages on. Will remember to NOT use bandages next time!!
Other than the things I pointed out above, I was pretty satisfied with this costume. Previously when Yuugao's name was still unrevealed, people kept telling me that I looked like her, so that kind of inspired me to make this costume.
