Finding orange clothing is hard, particularly in the larger sizes. I found a jacket and at the last minute I found pants, albeit of a lighter orange. I started off by covering the stripes down the side of the pants with orange "patches". I then sewed the midnight blue fabric on the top of the jacket, and added the red circle. I made the spiral in the red circle by sewing black felt on it. The dangly thing (what is it anyway?) was made by gluing white fabric onto a cardboard circle. I then glued white yarn into the shape of a spiral on it. Then I sewed brown vinyl (looks like leather fortunately) onto the cardboard, and strung a tan string down the sides. The dangly thing itself is made from extra white fabric and red felt. The shoes are sandals bought from Payless with my extra midnight blue fabric. They are held together by lots of glue, luck, thread and love. I ordered a headband from someone but have not gotten it, so I bought a cheap vinyl one at Expo and used that. I hope I get the nice metal one soon.

This was my first costume using my new sewing machine. I didn't know how to use it so a lot of trips back to the shop to learn were needed. Even with that there was a lot of cursing in my house for a long time. I persevered and got some use out of it. Mostly I used it to "smooth" the edges of the fabric I cut. The actual attachment to the coat etc was done by hand. Some of it was very hard to sew so I accidently chipped a tooth trying to pull out my needle. Grrr....

Not many people knew who I was exactly because I didn't zip up the jacket. (Too hot to do so in So Cal. The jacket was a quited winter one!). I was also missing the bottom blue stripe (ran out of fabric) and cuffs on my pants and coat. I plan to add these later. PiKashi-sensei will be making more appearances too.
