Description

I wasn't feeling great about the Hikaru costume (which I was too scared to start) so I went on Creative Uncut to stare at some pictures to get inspired.

I found a picture of Medli and she looked pretty easy. I loaded up my file and looked at her in the sculpture gallery thing by the Forest Haven, looked at pictures of other people who cosplayed her and browsed online for patterns and fabrics. I felt confident enough to get started a week later :D.

I'm finally putting this in my costume profy. I made a whole crapload of progress over the weekend. I finished the blue dress, the scarf and the pin and I sewed and pressed the red panels. I just need to silk screen the design on. (I'm in an art summer school and in one of my classes we're learing silk screening. Fun times.) I made the nose a while ago. I made it out of sculpey clay using a couple mirrors and patience. It's actually pretty awesome. Spirit gum keeps it on there pretty well; it survived headbanging. The paint sucks, though. >_>

All I gotta do is make the "shoes," headband thing and like I said earlier, silkscreen the panels. I'm not sure if I'm going to go through the trouble of buying and styling a wig. Heck, I'd rather squish some manic panic in there; I don't mind having burgandy hair for a few days.

I finished the panels, but boy were they tough! The silk screening didn't come out nearly as opaque as I hoped. The yellow border was a major pain because the fabric kept soaking up the dye so I had to apply layer after layer after layer of cheap yellow acrylic paint. The whole time I was kicking myself for not using iron on stuff and bias tape.
I fixed the nose and made the headband. (actually, all it is is a length of ribbon stuck to my head using double sided tape XD) I figured out a way to do up my hair without using a wig so I'm good. The color will be wrong but I don't really care at this point.
All that's left to do is sew some velcro onto some places (or get lazy and use saftey pins) and draw a line on some socks. I ordered the socks Saturday and they haven't arrived just yet. I can't wait 'til they do! :D
