Juli

Street Fighter

Last Updated: 11-08-2006

This costume was made as my final "project" in the Costume Construction course I took my junior year at college. So this was the time when I learned to correct my past mistakes, follow patterns correctly and to trust my instincts when it came to experimenting.
The Juli/Juni costume pair was meant for a fun skit that was named The Street Fighter Musical, performed by the Ranma Troupe. It was the one and only time I got on stage with them, since they were looking for a Juli/Juni and I offered to make both matching costumes for myself and Roxy. It was a bit part, but the costumes were comfy and turned out rather nice. And the skit won Best in Show! Whee!
Anyway, about the costume. It's based on a Kwik Sew pattern that has an empty circle back and hooks at the neck. I chose to sew the lines into the fabric by folding it at 2 inch intervals and sewing straight down, over and over, and over... and over... again. It took bloody forever... but it looks cool!
Anyway, the armor is simple. It's just various thicknesses of soft foam covered in felt. The hard knobs and stuff are a combination of paper clay and celluclay. The had is thin foam covered in fabric and I made two loops on the underside for bobby pins to stick through, to keep in on our hair. Boots were bought from Payless and have been used in many an outfit and costume (I love them!) And that's pretty much it!
