The Firey

Cardcaptor Sakura

Last Updated: 10-14-2006

This costume was a collaboration! I split the work with Lady Amaryllis. She made the bodysuit, and I made the wings, wig, skirt, ears and crown.

This costume was a part Underground Cosplay's Masquerade entry for Anime Expo 2006... we performed a skit with the four elemental Clow Cards (The Earthy, The Windy, The Firey, and The Watery) and Clow Reed. I chose to be Watery, and Amaryllis chose Earthy, and we split up the work for Windy and Firey. Since she did more work on Windy (my god, that WIG!!! *vomits*), and I did more work on Firey, we are posting them respectively in our cosplay accounts ^___^. The costume was worn by Anacrusis.

The skirt is what *unified* all of our Clow Card costumes together. We used the same skirt pattern for Earthy, Windy, Watery and Firey so they would all have the same "ethereal train" look, as we liked to call it xD! The base of the skirt is yellow crepe, the same color as the body suit and paint, and I used this CRAZY AWESOME chiffon-esque stuff for the overlay... it looks all sorts of different shades of orange and red depending on what angle you look at it. I have no idea what kind of fabric it is cuz I found it in the back corner of some random shop in downtown LA... but I thought it suited Firey quite well xD!

The wig I got from cosworx.com... yaaaay, cosworx!! I got the Rocker style (http://www.cosworx.com/product.php?productid=16468&cat=295&page=2) in a platinum blonde color, and colored it by hand with yellow and orange sharpies to get the two-toned look. I attached hair extensions to the front of the wig to make his longer bangs... I colored those with sharpie too. The colors from the sharpie initially came out WAAAAY too bright compared to the rest of the costume, so I would stick the wig out in the backyard every morning when I was leaving for work and would bring it inside after the sun went down... I did this for about 2 or 3 weeks. Being out in the sun for so long eventually bleached it to the perfect colors xD. Yeah, I'm nuts.

The WINGS!! WIIIIINGS! I've been wanting to make wings for the longest freaking time, and I finally did it :D! It was super fun too ^___^. My fiance, Mikee Jouee, helped me out a lot with making the base of the wings, but I did all the feathering ^^;;. In a nut shell, it's a compilation of copper wire tubing, chicken wire, batting (spray painted orange) and LOTS of feathers =P. I cut and rounded every single one of those feathers... even the little baby ones up top. I made sure to start with the big feathers at the bottom and worked my way up to the smallest feathers at the top, like real wings (believe me, I studied my cockatiel's wings... *squints*). But even though the wings were really time consuming, they were SUPER FUN to make!! Seriously, if you have a wing fetish like me you HAVE to do it... I really want to do a costume where -I- get to wear the wings sometime soon ... T 3T

Hm, what else... the ears and crown were both made out of paperclay... the ears were attached to a headband worn under the wig, and the crown was velcroed to the wig cap (ghetto, but DANG it stayed in place good!).

Oh, the makeup we used for Firey was Kryolan Aquacolor from cosworx.com ^___^. I will give this disclaimer to the yellow color aqua color... I used blue kryolan for my watery costume, and it went on ridiculously smooth and washed off super-easy. The yellow... didn't really do either of those ^^;;. I'm not sure why, but it was all crackly and cakey, and our poor Firey and Windy were still slightly yellow-tinted the next day ^^;;. I have no idea why the two colors reacted differently, but it's just something for someone thinking about using kyrolan to consider...

I think that's it. If you have questions about anything else, go poke LadyAmaryllis ;D
