This was a quick, fun costume that I whipped up just before Ani-Magic 2006. I wanted to go see a friend perform in the masquerade, so I used it as an excuse to make a new costume ^^. Mamimi is one of those characters that I had always considered cosplaying, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally do it ^___^. This is definitely the most ghetto cosplay I've ever done, but I still had fun making it! xD

The jacket is the -the- most ghetto part of the costume... I bought a sweatshirt at walmart for 3 bucks, cut it down the middle, sewed in a zipper, and attached the sailor collar. I was gonna actually sew the sweater part, but sweatshirt fleece was like $14 a yard! Holy crap, that was just ridiculous, so I decided for the sake of cheapnessticity I would just buy it premade ^^;.

The skirt took the longest time, but that's my own fault cuz I made a big mistake ^^;. I made the entire skirt out of khaki broadcloth, and then I started to paint the lines on with acryllic paint... it went really well at first, but when I was about half-way done painting, I washed my spongebrush out and then started painting again. NOT a good idea, considering water + paint = runny as hell ;___;. The paint started running EVERYWHERE, and leaked through onto all four panels of the skirt, completely destroying it >___>. Hence, I remade the skirt entirely, and made sure that I didn't wet the spongebrush at all the second time ^^;. The skirt turned out great the second time, lol! Good times!!

The bag was probably the most innovative part of the costume. I bought cheap canvas at walmart and used my leftover dye from watery to dye it blue. The bag is lined with this cute, fuzzy fleece stuff so it can be used as a funtional bag ^__^. I made up the pattern from scratch... actually, I didn't even really make a pattern, I just started cutting stuff and sewing it together xD! I used white apholstery thread to sew it, so you can see the stitches in all the appropriate places and it's EXTREMELY durable. When I was finished sewing, I painted the white cross on with acryllic paint. I love my bag, I use it every day to carry my books and laptop to class ;D

The wig I bought from cosworx ^^. It's the style Maxine (http://www.cosworx.com/product.php?productid=16431&cat=2446&page=2) in Dark Red Auburn. The color came out perfectly, but I was slightly disappointed with the wig itself. You can't see in the cosworx picture that it is much shorter in the back than in the front... I thought it would be the same length all around >_<. It still came out looking alright in pictures, and my friends said they didn't even notice, but I will admit I was a tad bit self-conscious ^^;;

Oh! And the best part of this costume was that when I got to Ani-Magic, my friend and fellow Undergrounder, Lith, gave me a cigarette to carry, complete with the words "Never Knows Best" written on it! I was absolutely thrilled xD. I felt so much more "Mamimi" when I was posing with it, tee hee ^___^
