Description

I didn't realize I hadn't made a profile for this costume yet. XD

Well, at the time of making it, this had been my most time-consuming and expensive costume, but it pales in comparison to Dream. Nonetheless, this was my turning point in complicated costumes (preceded by Ruby Moon).

This costume cost me near 200 dollars, mostly for the fabric, and took a good deal of time to make. It is made of several parts, some of which were found and the more difficult pieces made.

The underpart, the black shirt and black pants, were from stores and my closet. Nothing fancy there. The boots were ten dollar black shoes from Pay-Less which I modified. There were black straps, which I covered in the blue vinyl used for the gloves, as per what is seen in the movie. I added a few more buckles and straps, alternating between sewing and hot glue. The gloves were based off an old 1960s glove pattern. They were sewn in blue vinyl with blue cotton lining, and made to perfectly fit my wrist. I then added some straps and buckles.

The cape was based off a simple cape pattern, lengthened somewhat. The outside was made of a blue material as close to the material I could see used in the movie. The lining was made of a cotton with stars printed on it, and I will be going back to add some red as is seen in the movie. The hem was hand-sewn, and every piece pressed. It is held close by several clasps.

The hood was made by trial and error with burlap first, then made in the same blue material. I used two layers of blue mesh for the mesh covering the left side of the face. The bottom of the hood was made extra long, then strung up with blue thread to create the rippled effect. That part rests on the shoulders, back, and chest, and folds into the shoulder cape. The decorations were made initially of heavy clay, then later replaced with model magic to reduce how it pulled down the hood. Each piece was hand molded, then covered in several layers of metallic silver paint to give it a look of metal. It is double-layered and hand-hemmed. There is a hair clip sewn into the top of the hood to keep it in place.

The shoulder cape was, again, made of the same blue fabric, double-layered. It falls on my shoulders, and part of the way down my chest and back. It was made slightly large, to create another ripple effect. It is held in place by several snaps, and along its edge, it holds the triangle-stitched, grey lining, that which is seen floating around Boogiepop in the anime. This was made of grey vinyl, and the entire length (over six feet) machine-stitched to create the triangle pattern imprints. It is held close as a trinagle in the front with a snap, with the short end ending at my chest, and the longer end crossing my chest once and wrapping around my waist like a belt, snapped in the back. A chain was added, sewn in the back and held in front by some wire.

The thing I liked best about this costume was that I could get away with a bag without worrying - Miyashta has to carry one, thus Boogiepop does. XD That, and I don't have to worry about making stupid facial expressions, except when doing the "peek from under the hood" pose. The costume is very, very, very hot, especially considering I wear it at summer cons in Florida. It doesn't breath that well. Surprisingly, though, I can see fairly well out of the mesh, and suffer little depth perception. It's hard to see in, though, so I'm glad that worked out. The hood decorations are still giving me heck - I've tried sewing them on and gluing them on; neither method works well. So the hood is constantly being redone. I'm hoping to find a good solution soon.

I'm actually really proud of this costume, and am constantly tweaking it in an attempt to get it as perfect as possible.
