I love this costume. <3 Of all Misa's outfits, this was one of my very favourites. Everyone thought I was crazy when I said I was gonna make it all from scratch. Little did they know... >D
So I made like everything by myself -- the corset, the skirt, the thigh-highs, the garter belt, the gloves, the necklaces, and even the ponytails. I did buy the boots, though. xD
The corset is fully lined and boned, and I made up the pattern for it myself! 8D It's my pride and joy. Even if it is a little short... x\
The skirt was fantastically simple, except for that bit of trying to position the lace on the petticoat at just the right height. Seriously, it took me hours. D:
The thigh-highs were rather fun to make, too. I got a whole bunch of stretch lace, cut out a rectangle, and pinned it around my leg so that it was snug enough to stay on like normal stockings, yet not so snug that I couldn't wear them or take them off. xD The ribbon I put around the top edge likes to fray, though...
I was going to use a pre-bought garter belt, but that ribbon at the top of my stockings didn't like that idea. So I made my own. Take that. >]
The gloves were made half from the skirt/corset material and half from the stretch lace. They were mostly hand-sewn in the car on the way to Anime Vegas. xD
The choker was velvet ribbon with a snap on the back. The cross necklace is part of a keychain attached to cheap chain, complete with a ghetto safety pin closure. xD (I'll fix it one day, I promise!)
Then there was the wig. I just figured, "Hey, I'll just add it some extra wefts by hand and do Misa-style ponytails like it says to do regular ponytails on Katie Bair's site!" Ha. Haha. Since it was a long wig, I cut it to the length I wanted, then gathered up the clippings and threaded them, bundle by tiny bundle, through the wig mesh. Then I slapped on some scrunchies, sewed the wefts together on the inside, and voila! Misa wig!
Her make-up is fairly easy to do, and when I wear shorts under the skirt, this is probably my most comfortable costume yet.
