Well, I wanted a costume that was easy to manuver in for the Cherry Blossom Ball, but my Saber Cosplay with it's bigger-than-expected hoop skirt didn't quite fit the ticket.
So, with two weeks to the con, I set about making a dress. (I'm also doubling it as my prom dress.
My goals for the dress was to incoperate both Mistral's three main colors (Light Blue, White, and Gold) with lots of trinkets.
The base dress was a second hand prom dress. To that, I added bead/sequin patterns (Flowers and swirls, and all that jazz) I also took apart a seam and added pleats.
Next, I made a small, thin wrap that also acts as a shawl. To it, I added blue ribbon in a zig zag on the bottom (Both sides) and gold ribbon in a spiral, the motif on Mistral's hat.
To represent the two ends trails of her hat, I made hair clips identical to those accessories, which attach to the side of the head.
The jewelery was basically modeled after her outfit's clasp, with the red stones becoming earrings, and a smaller version of the arrow/cross becoming a pendant.
Finally, for the trinkets, I gathered up many small, shiny, trinkets from around my house. I was looking for anything that would attract her, shiny and unusual.
Some of these include:
- an antique fan
- "High Elephant Tusk Chopsticks"
- A kitten bean bag
- Ear turning signals.
- Various pieces of jewelery
- A scarf in her color
I also made a Golden Grunty out of Super Sculpy. (Modeled after the one in Vol. 3 of the .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet manga) I'm considering making a silver one as well.
