This is one of those costumes that made it's way onto my planned costumes list back in 2002. I originally planned this for Anime North 2003 as one of my debut costumes (along side FFT Mime), but as you can guess, that never happened ...

I was finally able to turn my attentions back to Luna around March 2007. I needed a final project for the last costume class of my university career, but it needed to be something that I already had most of the materials for, since I was broke. The other criteria was that it needed to make sense to drape the whole thing on the bias. And so, after 5 years I finally got around to a costume I'd wanted to do for so long.

I think I made maybe 4 drafts of this dress in order to get just the right shape of the skirt combined with the shape of the bodice. I really wanted to match the distinctive square shape of Luna's skirt from the Material's Collection illustration, which I really hope I've managed to do. The material I used was some sort of stretch satin, which I only really bought because of the colour. Since I personally can't usually stand the look of satin, I decided to use the wrong side of the material instead of the shiny side ... the more I've worked on this dress, the more I regret that choice. But oh well, too late to change it now ...

I haven't finished the wig yet, but so far it's been built from 2 identical black curly wigs I bought from ebay. The original wig unfortunately had a side part, so I tried my hand at my very first major wig reconstruction. I've essentially rewefted and entire wig by moving the skin part and then adding more than half of a second with to make the final product thicker and fuller. Word to the wise, on a curly wig this is generally a bad idea ... I highly doubt I would ever do something this stupid to myself again ...

Still haven't finished the damn project ... I've dragged it to 2 conventions so far with the intent to finish it *at* con and wear it ... but that never happens ...
