Seras Victoria is my absolute favorite manga heroine, so suffice to say, I was thrilled to have a color rendition of her with the release of the OVA and found it an excellent excuse to modify a costume I'd already seen done dozens of times. Out of all my Hellsing cosplays, this is my very favorite, the one I worked the hardest on, and the one I plan to continue working on and wearing the most. Additionaly, having an opportunity to wear it as a companion piece to my significant other truly made it a labor of love <3...
Specs on this costume:
- Harkonnen is 30 lbs, made from PVC, Bondo, fiberglass, & MDF. Took about 2 weeks of manpower, none of it from my end ~.^ We made an extra effort to make the color, lettering, ect OVA-accurate. Ammo box still under construction.
- Entire costume was handmade from denim and distressed to give it a worn-in look. Uniform took about a month of planning and work using a modified Burda pattern. In lieu of dayglow yellow, we used a muted hue and brown accessories that more accurately matched the OVA. Added piping, military brass buttons, handmade collar and modified boots/gloves to also match OVA. Ammo belt is authentic WWII accessory found at a flea market.
- Patches were commissioned. The Droopy-Dog patch on the left arm is actually never worn by Seras; however, it was included in the Vol. 1 edition of Hellsing from "Young King Ours" as an insert along with the design for the original patches...we thought it would be a nice original touch. DalaiLiam wears his on his medic bag ~.^
A very big and loving aknowledgement goes to DalaiLiam for giving me the motivation to finish and wear this costume as a companion to his Pip Bernadette cosplay. Without his encouragement, work on the Harkonnen, photography, and---most important---his awesome rendition of an amazing character, my Seras would be incomplete! ~.^
EDIT (October,2007): Yep, finally retiring the old girl. Yellow Seras seems to be in the running for becoming a very popular cosplay, so I'm hoping to begin Red Seras in the coming months for photoshoots only :)
