Description

I wanted to do a Phoenix Wright cosplay and when I saw Morgan's obnoxiously large hair I knew she was the character I had to cosplay.

The kimono is made in two layers. Since the collar is white and sleeves are red I just decided to make these as separate pieces from the outer black portions since it would be easy to wash. Alone this under kimono (juban) is really silly looking with the white main body portion and red sleeves. Oh well, it's not going to be seen alone. Well, except for the pictures I added to the gallery of it. lol

The black outer kimono was the most time consuming portion of the costume. Since I couldn't find pre-printed fabric with kanji that I liked I decided to hand paint all the symbols on. Painting on fabric is very time consuming. For a bit of fun I decided to use odds and ends of mixed up symbols since Morgan's costume had some kanji that I couldn't really make out. To make it more personal to me I used the kanji symbols for the seasons (Winter, Summer, Spring, Fall) since they look cool, the symbol for love and my maiden name which is Shimura. Since there is no kanji for my married name I used the katakana symbols. Oh and I also have Kimiko on there too. Keeping in mind that painting on fabric is difficult the symbols probably look like a preschooler wrote then. :P

Obi: Since I only know how to tie a Butterfly obi and I didn't want to have to bother with tying my obi I made a faux Drum obi. The first part is the portion that goes around the waist which is held closed with hook and eye clasps and the second portion which is the 'drum'. To the drum I added some poly-fil to give it some body and to help hide the closure in the back of the obi.

Shoes and Socks: The sock are the same tabi socks I use for my Bleach costume and the white platform zori I purchased from Wal-Mart for $4. Woo hoo!

Wig: Ordered pre-styled wig and added the pink flowers. The wig did come with some lose ringlets that I had to smooth out and add to the rest of the pulled back hair since Morgan does not have ringlets. Got 2b Glued totally rocks. The flowers were purchased at Michael's and I attached them to one of those plastic hair combs and applied that to the obnoxiously large hair. On a funny note, the wig is actually larger in the back than the front so I have turned it around so the front is more pronounced like her hair is. Thus, I have to wear the wig backwards to have the correct effect.

Purse: Her costume does not show a purse but I am have made one for storing all the stuff I cart around at conventions. I tossed around the idea of having a purse that looked like a giant tea cup or some large strawberry dessert, but decided since she is such an obscure character I better go with something that is more recognizable. Thus, the "Objection!" purse.

It is created using red, black, and white felt, matching DMC embroidery floss, a heavier blue fabric (some sort of bottom weight, not sure, can't remember.) for the body of he purse, a 50 year old blue zipper and some of the left over black fabric from the kimono for a liner. I hand embroidered the "Objection" which took me about 3 days to complete.

Hopefully there are no objections to my purse!
