This is my second incarnation of this cute kitty costume ^_^. My good friend (and fellow cosplayer) Tikki inspired me to redo this outfit when she expressed an interest in making the alternate color Cham Cham.
DRESS: I made the dress with a type of stretchy fur that (unfortunately) only came in white. After dying the material yellow with pastels, I used the leotard pattern from Butterick (#6541) as a base for the dress. Then, making sure to leave the crotch unsewn, try on the garment and draw a guideline for where you intend to cut off the left shoulder. Make any necessary alterations to make certain the dress fits (ie. taking it in/out, etc.). One nice thing about working with fur is the fact that you usually don't need to hem it, and that works especially well for this costume! Just cut the edges jaggedly for that "jungle look" ^_-. Finally, put the brown stripes on using pastels once more.
PAWS & FEET: I made my own patterns for the paws and feet by tracing around my hands and feet. The material was dyed in exactly the same manner as is mentioned above. The claws are sculpted out of Paperclay, and painted with acrylic paint. I attached the claws to the gloves with fabric glue.
TAIL: I made my own pattern for the tail, inserted a bendable wire inside, and stuffed fiber fill around the wire and in the tail. (The material was dyed in the same manner as is mentioned above.)
EARS: I made my own pattern for these..... I began by bending wire into two skeletal ear shapes, then put layers of masking tape over the areas that would be covered by fabric. Next, I attached the inner ear fabric to the structure with fabric glue, and hand-sewed the furry fabric onto the other side of the ears. Finally, I dyed the ears with pastels and safety-pinned them onto the wig.
WIG: Tikki bought the wig for me.
