Garnet Til Alexandros XVII
Final Fantasy IX
Last Updated: 06-07-2007
I've been enjoying the Final Fantasy games ever since my brother and I got the original RPG for our Nintendo system. The series just keeps getting better! When I first saw Princess Garnet I decided that her dress would present a wonderful sewing challenge ^_^. It was my first attempt at creating such a complex dress involving boning, a petticoat, and lots of detail.
DRESS: I used Butterick pattern #6398 as a base and altered it to include an overskirt. I also had to alter the shape of the bodice to better match Garnet's dress. The vine patterns were painted on by Jason Martin (who is an amazing artist, and my husband ^_-). The fabric I used is an off-white windsor satin, and there is some white netting that I added underneath the overskirt to give it more body. The bead and jewel accents had to be hand-stitched onto the dress. I had to attach a petticoat to the underside of the skirt in order to give the dress a nicer shape. I used white netting and Simplicity pattern #9027 to create the petticoat.
WIGLET: Bought at www.funwigs.com.
GLOVES: I bought these at 'Claire's' and altered them to look like Garnet's gloves. The vines are the work of Jason once more, and the beads and jewel accents were hand-sewn onto the gloves.
CROWN: This was a last-minute addition. I bought a crown at Wal-Mart, and altered it by attaching beads and jewels.
SHOES: Bought at Payless many years ago.
BARRETTE: Bought at Wal-Mart a few years back.
