Final Fantasy IX

It's probably the one costume I spent the most time and money on.
It's the first costume I decided to make when I got back to cosplaying, and did not limit myself in any way on it : I would spend as much money as needed, and would finish it when I finish it.
As a result, between the moment I bought the first fabrics and started sewing it, and the first con I wore it to, it was more than six months, and I had spent more than 200 euros on it - so I promised myself, never again ^^;
I started by making the white mage coat. It's made out of polar wool, and felt for the red parts. The construction is not academic at all, a lot of trial and error was involved, but I think it looks nice, and it's very comfy, although very not appropriate for hot weather.
The leotard is based on an old dance leotard I cut open to see how it was cut. The fabric is stretch velvet, and probably the most expensive I've ever bought, so I made a mock-up with cheaper fabric first, just to be sure.
The first time I did the shirt I messed it up (sleeves were too short, not wide enough...) ; so I redid it later - with silk instead of cotton ^^;
The thing I had the most trouble with were the gloves... I restarted them several times, I could not make them right until I finally got a pattern. Note to self for the next time : no more characters with gloves, unless it can be done with stretch fabric.
The belts turned out ugly, so I only wore one the first con I wore the costume to, and none the next times. I still have to remake them.
The shoes I bought were so expensive, I could not resign myself to cover them in any harmful way. The color was close enough anyway, and the shape perfectly accurate. Note : I hate pointy shoes to begin with, so I never wore these outside of cosplay.
