My friend Jen and I paired up as Rikku and Yuna respectively. It was out first BIG project. It took us roughly 4 months to complete. Every Monday (with a few days inbetween) until Otakon.
Construction notes:
The top is made with microsuede and faux moleskin. The straps are bias tape. The skirt a cotton base with shear lining draped on the back and sewn down to create the gathering effect. The brown patch on the skirt is microsuede. The buckles are thick foamies spray painted gold. All the brown stitching on the sleeves, front of the top, and the brown patch on the skirt are hand sewn to re-create the stitching shown in the reference picture.
My "tail" is made of nylon strap that is used for bookbags.

To date, this is my favorite costume that I've completed. If I were to remake it, I would put boning into the top. At the time, we were afraid, but now I'm more confident.
