Cosplay meme

1. What was your first cosplay?
Cho Chang (Quidditch version) from Harry Potter – It was a very last minute deal, and I didn’t know I was cosplaying at the time. Some friends and I wanted to dress up for the premiere for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and our graduation robes happened to be blue.

2. Did someone get you into cosplay? Or did you get into it on your own?
It’s a little bit of both. When I was younger, I wanted to be Sailor Mars for Halloween and to dress up for movie premieres like I had seen Star Wars fans do. I didn’t learn about cosplay until a friend proposed that we do it for A-kon.

3. What is your favorite cosplay?
Nana Osaki (artbook kimono version) from NANA – Aside from the fact that I want to be Nana, I love the mix of traditional and modern. My roommate Becky made a beautiful kimono, and she trusted me enough to help.

4. Which is your least favorite?
Lara Croft from Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness – It was really ghetto; I never got to finish the holsters properly so they fell apart. Also, I realized that I could never be Lara Croft.

5. At conventions, do people compliment you on your cosplays?
Indeed they do. ^_^

6. How many have you done?
Approximately 12 (not counting the last minute ones or what’s in progress).

7. What are the top 5 characters on your list of "Want to Cosplay"?
1) Lucifer from Angel Sanctuary – winged, masked vinyl badassness… that’s all I need to say.
2) Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII Advent Children – I would wear the outfit normally, and Tifa is just so awesome. My hair used to look like that too.
3) Mirai Trunks from Dragon Ball Z – I want to complete the outfit in honor of my favorite elementary school, where the vice principal there even recognized my half-assed Halloween costume.
4) Revy from Black Lagoon – I feel like I have a better chance of pulling her off than Lara Croft, despite their similarities, because she is Chinese-American and isn’t an aristocrat.
5) Dino Chiavorone from Katekyo Hitman Reborn! – We already wear similar clothes, and we’re both useless on our own.

8. What female cosplay do you want to do most?
According to Question 7, it should be Tifa, but I really just want to do more Nana Osaki cosplays, especially the infamous red dress.

9. What male cosplay do you want to do most?
Lucifer, even though I will never have the time, money, or skills.

10. What do you prefer to do: make or buy your costumes?
I buy the clothing and make the props. Sometimes I'll get people help sew stuff, and once I made a skirt out of duct tape. One of these days I’ll learn how to sew properly (it’s like driving: I understand the concepts but I just have a hard time doing it).

11. Your most memorable experience? What makes it so memorable?
Amano Cosplay Showcase – It was the first time I made the majority of my costume (duct tape miniskirt, w00t!) and the first time I entered a cosplay contest. In addition meeting Yoshitaka Amano, I got to meet a lot of great cosplayers, which was nice because I usually keep to myself/my group at cons.

12. Your dream cosplay?
I hate sounding like a broken record so my ultimate dream is to have every major Nana Osaki outfit there is (I told you I want to be her).

13. Is there a pattern in your cosplays? If so, what?
I usually stick to dark-haired characters because I don’t like wigs. I also like to cosplay girls who are more than what they seem. For example, if they're tough on the outside, they have a vulnerable interior (Nana Osaki). On the flipside, if they look sweet and innocent, then they will kick your butt in 10 seconds (Gogo Yubari).

14. Your most recent cosplay?
Nana Osaki (movie version) from NANA

15. What do you prefer: cosplaying in a group or on your own?
Groups are more fun because of the photo ops and ability to get into character more, but I like having the ability to do my own thing.
