I don't believe that I'm the only one who, immediately after the ending of one convention, start planning for the same convention next year. Heck, we were planning during Anime North 2009 for 2010!!!
Anyways, in June I booked my hotel room for AN'10, and started looking at what I can do to improve Anri.
So far:
- repair or buy new gloves.
I had made adjustments to the zippers when I bought them to accommodate my sensory issues. Unfortunately, that meant that the stitches attaching the zippers to the gloves started coming undone. To keep the current gloves, I need to replace the zippers. A lot cheaper than buying new ones.
- new skirt.
This has already been completed. The skirt I've been using for the past two years is a basic skirt I just grabbed out of my closet. It's a good skirt, but doesn't suit the character.
I fulfilled this part out of sheer luck. Honestly. I was shopping during the summer, and a new shipment of full skirts had come in. They were *the thing* this summer, apparently. Anyways, I like full skirts because they're flattering and cool, if you get the right fabric. Browsing through the selection, I found this long black lace skirt. There was also a maroonish one, but it was a little sketch about the size. I tried it on, found that I liked it, and also, it's one of those skirt/dress things, where you can pull it up and wear it as a strapless dress. Most girls use a belt, but I think it would damage the lace.
Anyways, I decided to get the black one because I figured then I could wear it with more things and it was in my size. Trying it on at home, I realized that I could use it with Anri! I tried it with the corset, and strangely enough, I think the leather and lace go well together.
- wig
I've been thinking about this for a few years. I've done some interesting things to my hair, including dyeing it neon, and I know that while it may be a really cool colour, it doesn't really help the out-of-costume aspect of life. Never mind that it ruins one's hair. (My hairdresser told me off ROYALLY for the home-done bleach and dye job for the neon hair. My current blond streak isn't too bad, since I left the bleach in only for a few minutes and didn't majorly damage my hair.)
But a wig, now that would be a lot easier. Also, my natural brown hair (with red highlights, vanity insists I add) doesn't really suit Anri. Anri has grown to be this massively powerful creature, and brown hair just ruins the effect.
So, wig. I went to my local costume store, Queen of Hearts, and tried on a few wigs. None of the expensive good ones would work. I needed something that was kind of like my hair, but in white. and with bangs, since the bangless ones just look weird, in my opinion.
I ended up picking up a fairly cheap wig and a wig cap, as well as some styling tips from the associate there. Now, I'm eyeing the wig store here, and thinking, if I make a complete mess of this wig, I know where I can go to get another
I got a Styrofoam head from a local gaming store (their Halloween display) and now am in the process of figuring out HOW to style my wig.
This time of year is awesome for picking up costume things. I got a new lipstick from the latest winter lineup, and from the Halloween left-over sale, I napped me some glitter face-dust. glitter!! glitter!!
