The chill of winter...in a costume :D!

...for no apparent reason, being able to select from multiple costumes in the drop down list in my journal, gave me a little thrill.

I am a geek.
....
Nay, I am a costumer.

Anyways.

So. Since its been a long time since my last update:

1. At my work, because we order pet costumes for halloween, we the employees have the oppertunity to order stuff from Rubies costumes at warhouse cost. I partook. And the stuff came in today. The box was almost as tall as I was. How happy was I? So I scored three pairs of wings, and a mask, the latter which I intend on using for Nefertina at CN. Getting it into the car/explain what the hell it was to my parents..... that was interesting. I think that was the most exasperated expression I have gotten for a while. I'm kind of bemused, in a rueful kind of way.

2. Winter! It's actually coming along okay. I have selected the fabrics for my skirts. A blue gradient tone, and a sheer organza with snowflakes. They are both hemmed, and I'm the process of adding a silver sequin trim to the organza to add sparkle.....and to cover up the hemming. Remind me to never work with that stuff again. I didn't know it was possible for fabric to reject being pinned so badly.

Anyway.

MMmmmm.... so I've bought accessories as well. Bits and pieces of jewlery, fuzzy leg warms, and such. Shoes, I changed, when decided that being in the costume all day, and at the Monsters Ball at night, will incure tired feet especially if in slippers with no foot support. So I ended up finding silver running shoes with white streaks. They look like 50s roller skates without the wheels, and more disco. I love it. XD
There's lots of stuff to still work on, a few things will only come when I can complete each stage. Waiting on the fur vest from my sister, to see if that works. Such a hodge podge this costume. I hope it works out.

3. Animenorth is no go for this coming year. My roomie is getting married. (Yay!) A little bit more important, n'est pas? My cosplay will be that of a wedding guest. ^_~ So, I'ved decided to go to that mini anime con in December, DTAC is it? Another excuse to cosplay. I'll reuse either winter or Pico depending on how I feel.

4. My string of cosplay ideas has extended once more, and again from Gaia's EIs. Not sure why, but I love the designs on those. Jinxi's Charm - the Shaman. I love it, and I think it would be an amazing outfit to dress. In theory, not hard to make.
In theory.

Cleaning Basements = Hidden Treasure

So.
The intense cleaning of our basement had a silver lining.
Other than a clean basement.
I discovered a mismash of costuming stuff, and material scraps.
Success is mine.

Anyways. Halloween. It's coming. Soon enough, that I really need to get cracking on that Winter Costume. Ideas are trickling into my head slowly, which I will hope turn into an idea. So far, its very bottom heavy of a costume. Big puffy skirt, fuzzy boots. Thick belt, with minimal styled top. I have no idea how this will work out. But perhaps, I should mull aloud. Or...rather... on text.

Skirt: Crinoline layer. Sheer white, with snowflake circle skirt overlayer. (Shorter than crinoline?) Edging for more silver...or should it be blue? Coins would be best to match sash. Over skirt of blue? Topped with white/silver belly dancing sash?

Legs. Leggings, or rather, my baby blue long john's. (Where are they?) Boots. Thick fuzzy ones. Like the ones at winners for 24.99 which is too much for this. Cheap $10 slippers fuzzy at Ardenes? Cover boots with something silver and chimmy. And blue ribbon tie? Will stay on foot better.

Belt.....obi like? bodice like? Grommets? Found that old pattern of the white mage costume. Has a sash pattern. Not impossible to adapt....if that piece is still in there. Should be blue?

Shirt.......ugh. Tank? I want the upper body to be covered enough so that the make I do is intense?

Make up...I want to completely paint my face with a whitish blue. Moonlight colour at Malabars. Use blue and silver other tones. Silver lipstick. Pe says to go shiny. Using gemstones to skin. Can use eyelash glue to stick on, likely.

Need to choose wig. Get advice from Cosplay.com forum people. Headpiece design.
Contacts......
Hm..

This has been a grammatically incorrect journal.

So sidetracked, I never found the track.

Seriously.
I am becoming a magpie when it comes to costume pieces. I have no idea where this came from. But I managed to aquire a few pieces of random stuff, from the good will, for random costumes in the future, instead of focusing on the Winter costume I just updated to my cosplay profile two days ago.

I am becoming an addict, of the nerdiest sort.

Anyways, what I did end up getting was this awesome green, multi fabric skirt, and a burnished gold chain belt thingie that would look great together. I am thinking swamp or forest effect. Changing the skirt into a tunic or something and adding a sash belt could be cool. But that's for another time.

I washed the crinoline yesterday and I'm glad I did. The water came off grey on that thing, which was both satisfying and nasty. But it's clean now so it's ready to wear when the times comes. It's nice and fluffy now too.

Next things to hand wash are those pieces I bought. (Totaling 7 bucks for the two of them. ) Oh, bottle of Zero you are awesome in your cleaning action!

And if that wasn't enough random. I ventured today to fabricland along with Miss Sauce, (who's working on an Anne Boelyn costume for halloween with the team of us to help her), and ended up with 2m of sheer white fabric with snowflakes in silver, and a metre of this silky smooth blue stuff, that changes its saturation as it moves. I have no idea what to do with it, but I was ready to cancel doing Winter as my Halloween costume until I found these. So now I have a better idea.....sort of. At least I have something to work with now, that came to $10. I can deal with that.

Vintagely, my dear Watson

Today I decided to do a whirlwind tour of downtown Toronto, involving places such as Malabars, Queen St. West and the vintage stores of Kensington Market. This proved to be a good idea, as I was a)able to get some in person ideas on theatrical makeup brands, b)get general inspiration of halloween, c) get a new book from Bakka Phoenix and d)discover I had a secret desire for vintage crinoline. No idea what happened with that. But I found a white one I liked, and bought it. $40, which might be cheap, or might be expensive. Certainly it was par for what other ones were around there. It's now stuck on the back of my door, fluffly as if to say: "Well, you bought me. Now what?"

I have yet to answer that question myself.

Anyways, post FanExpo. Pico, the Remix went over MUCH better this time. Lumpy-ness was decreased, and changing up that shirt colour was the ticket. I did end up finding a fan to use, and painted over the course of a week. (ie) hunched over the blasted thing after work each night, much to the protest of my feet and back. I was satisfied, and Pico is official a Cosplay Costume succes. Pictures will be posted once I get some really nice ones done.

As for the next event, Hallowe'en, I am officially going as Winter, the season. Said crinoline will be used with this. I believe this going to be a shaman/gyspy fae type of winter, as oppose to my classical peasant style I did for my autumn fae last year. Time to update the profile with costume number 3.

Pointless Mind Fluff = Cosplay Wonder

I've given up understanding how my mind works. Really.
Why? Because my brain comes up with the following thought patterns:

"Hm. I wonder if I can cosplay as an Athropomorphic Marvin Gardens from Monopoly."

Seriously.
What the hell?
