And then it wasn't enough...

So after tackling the skirt once again, my friend and I found that we needed the skirt to have more material if it was to flair out as it was supposed to.

We had all the fabric we needed, but now we had to insert more panels. Thus began the tedious job of ripping the seams to the midway point. Then we made a pattern for the inserts from scratch (not easy I tell ya). It was a triangle patten and, I must say, I'm rather proud of it myself. )

Originally my skirt had 6 panels. After the inserts were created it had 12. Ouch!
And, of course, the very tops of the triangles couldn't be sown on with the sewing machine because the stitch would have shown up (because the tips stopped halfway up the seam). Thus we had to stitch those by hand. Double ouch!

So all in all: it's looking a lot better, but our progress has become slow once more. I hope to complete the skirt next week so we can start on the shirt part. Saboten-con is fast approaching!

The very first step!

The great unknown of cosplay! Or rather the known to most anime fans, but the unknown to me!

My first step into anime cosplaying was quite fun! The friend I am working with and her mother (who is the sweetest person ^_^) have given me a refresher course in sewing. The end result?

We got the fabric for the skirt part cut and most of it sown together. All that's left for the skirt is to add a zipper to the side (so I can get in. lol), hemming, and then adding the ribbon trim.

The costume as a whole has three parts: the skirt, the white shirt, and a small vest/jacket.

For one day of work, I got a lot done! At least, I think so.
