What got you into cosplay?
I've always loved constructing and wearing costumes for as long as I can remember. When I was five or six years old, I used to make my own costumes out of construction paper and glue. I basically never stopped.
What was your first costume and why?
My first serious all-over costume as an adult was probably my Groucho Marx costume viewable on this site. For my first time participating in New York City's Village Halloween Parade, I chose to portray him because he's an idol of mine, and I wanted any excuse to play his character in public.
What is your favorite costume and why?
My favorite costume to build has probably been the Keymaster from "Ghostbusters." I had a great time building that headgear. My current favorite to wear is definitely Harpo Marx, he's an absolute joy. The gear is comfortable, and he's my favorite character to actually play. Perhaps I'm just a closet mime or something, but channeling Harpo comes so easily and feels so natural to me that I actually have a bit of trouble breaking character. If I want to hold a conversation with someone, I often have to at least take the wig off. I still randomly perform Harpo in New York City parks and subways for a laugh.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I'd love to get together some complete outfits for the sixth Doctor Who as played by Colin Baker. He's my favorite Doctor, and I must confess I really like his clothes.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Performing Harpo on the subway, and making jaded New Yorkers laugh.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Um.. I took second prize in a pub Samhain celebration as Harpo. A friend of mine took first prize, so it was all good.
Tell us a little about yourself
Nerdy and proud.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I absolutely detest the word "cosplay."
